Guidance from the Environment Agency on Marram Grass in the front of the Bungalows at South Beach

I can advise that, as you’re probably aware, the marram grass helps to stabilise the sand and provide a natural barrier. It has been self colonising between Heacham and Snettisham for some time.

We lost quite a depth of it during the surge and it will take quite a few years to establish again so we prefer to leave it alone. However the sand/marram which is building up in front of the South Beach properties is above the defence height of 6.3m and therefore some light trimming (of the grass that appears above the sand) I believe would be acceptable.
